Majority of displaced civilians will be resettled by year's end

The ultimate defeat of the LTTE makes way for a rare opportunity to forge a lasting change in deeply divided Sri Lanka, and President Mahinda Rajapaksa is all out to win over the disenchanted Tamil community. "I am totally aware of the saddest ever circumstances you, innocent civilians held hostage by the LTTE in the no-fire-zone, are undergoing at the moment," President said in message to civilians held hostage by the LTTE.

The Presidential Task Force is already in operation in Vavuniya helping over 200,000 civilians jumped into the safe hands of the government at IDP welfare centers. "We have to do a lot of peace building and bridge building between our communities. We are a battered nation and, frankly, it's our sacred duty to fulfill such hopes for our beloved motherland," said a consultant to Sri Lanka's Commissioner General of Rehabilitation. Read more ...
